TradingView

TradingView best practices.

Use a daily (1D) or shorter timeframe, standard time-based candles, and Scale price chart only so the indicators display options-derived levels and curves accurately.

Swing and intraday workflows

Match the indicators and expiry settings to the timeframe you are analyzing, or start from the ready-made chart layouts.

Starting toolsScan symbols in Options Screener PRO, then use a monthly horizon (First Monthly or Optimal Monthly) in GEX Profile PRO alongside Options Overlay PRO and Options Oscillator PRO.Open GEX Profile PRO on the nearest expiry (First) with a compact Options Overlay PRO view, and add 0DTE Expected Move Box PRO on symbols with same-day expirations.
Data updatesThe five weekday updates on the update schedule (~6:40–6:50 AM, ~9:40–9:50 AM, ~12:40–12:50 PM, ~2:40–2:50 PM, and ~3:40–3:50 PM ET) cover multi-day structure.Check the WebApp for minute-by-minute analytics during weekday update hours, and use Manual Override to paste current levels onto your chart between scheduled updates.
Historical contextUse GEX History PRO to review how long each gamma state persisted across five expiry horizons.Use the historical boxes and statistics in 0DTE Expected Move Box PRO to review how often past sessions stayed inside the implied range.
After the cash closeThe chart retains the latest received snapshot until the next weekday premarket update. On mapped futures such as /ES, switch off an expired same-day (First) profile after the 4:00 PM ET cash close and view the next available expiry.

  • Use a 1D or shorter timeframe. Weekly (1W) and monthly (1M) charts skip mid-week expiration dates, which prevents the indicators from aligning levels and curves with every expiry.
  • Use standard time-based candles. Non-standard chart types such as Renko, Heikin Ashi, Range, Kagi, or Point & Figure alter bar closes or the time axis and are not supported.
  • Match intraday timeframes to your expiry distance. On a 1-minute or 2-minute chart, distant expirations sit thousands of bars ahead. For intraday analysis, use the nearest expiry (First) or switch to a 5-, 10-, or 15-minute chart when viewing wider history.
  • Enable Scale price chart only. Right-click the right-hand price scale and keep Scale price chart only enabled so distant gamma walls or Murrey levels do not compress the candles.
  • Bring indicator labels to the front. If candles overlap labels or lines, open the indicator's More → Visual order → Bring to front menu.

Interpreting levels and volatility metrics

Gamma walls and HVL highlight price zones where options positioning is concentrated. Price may react near these levels or trade through them—the indicators provide analytical context on dealer hedging pressure, not buy or sell signals. HVL (High Volatility Level) marks the high-volatility inflection point on the cumulative gamma curve (drawn in turquoise) rather than a simple “gamma flip” badge. See HVL and gamma exposure for details.

IV Rank (IVR) shows where current implied volatility sits within the symbol's 52-week range. Read it alongside IVx and call/put skew: a high or low IV rank is descriptive context, not an instruction to sell or buy premium. See IV rank and expected move.

Verification and notifications

  • Check the snapshot timestamp. Hover over the HVL label in GEX Profile PRO (or a cell in Options Screener PRO) to see when the displayed data snapshot was generated.
  • Confirm the mapped source chain. On a mapped futures or spot-proxy chart (such as /ES or BTCUSD), check the tooltip to confirm which underlying options chain is being scaled.
  • Empty table cells. An empty cell in an expiry or screener table indicates that no data print was available for that symbol or expiration in the current snapshot.
  • Notifications and on-demand lookups. The TradingView indicators do not generate native TradingView alerts. Use the Discord GEX bot commands (/gex0, /gex, /matrix) and feed channels such as spx-0dte-feed for quick checks.
