Choose the expiration and calculation mode for your analysis, locate price within the gamma profile, then check the data timestamps. Use the routines below to keep those checks consistent.
Match the view to your horizon
Choose the expiration separately from the candle interval. Standalone isolates one expiration; Cumulative combines the expirations included in the selected scope.
0DTE
- Expiration and mode
- Select
0in Standalone mode, with Key Only enabled, to isolate today's expiration. - Views and metrics
- Use GEX Live Chart with
1m–15mcandles, or GEX Live Table. The Default 0DTE Pinfinder column preset combines Net DEX, Abs GEX, and Net Volume. - Expected move
- Compare the EOD, PRE, and OPEN snapshots in Expected Move Box.
Weekly
- Expiration and mode
- Compare
W1orW2in Standalone and Cumulative modes. Check the actual expiration date and DTE. - Views and metrics
- Compare Net GEX, Net DEX, and Net OI with
15m–1Hcandles. Check where a single expiration's walls align with the cumulative profile. - Expected move
- Read Smart EM Range toward the selected expiration in Adaptive Expected Move.
Monthly and events
- Expiration and mode
- Inspect Cumulative through
M1orM2, and compare expirations in GEX Matrix. - Views and metrics
- Compare IVx and horizontal skew in the Matrix. The Swing Trader column preset combines Net Volume, Net OI, and Detailed OI; use
4Hor1Dcandles for a broader price view. - Expected move
- Compare Smart with the Advanced methods: Binary Expected Move (BEM), delta distance, and one standard deviation. Check the earnings expiration.
For scope rules, column presets, and metric definitions, see Expirations, Expiry selection, Column Presets (Ctrl+L), and Column metrics.
Check the cumulative scope. On a later expiration row, it includes expirations from the next session through that date, excluding today. On today's row, it covers today only. See Standalone and cumulative.
Read levels, zones, and visibility
Locate price within the profile
Start with HVL, C1, P1, and the cT / pT transition boundaries. Identify whether price is in a positive, transition, negative, or extension zone.
Confirm zone settings
Open GEX Level & Chart Settings with Ctrl+M and check the zone-coloring switches. Zone shading also depends on an ordered, complete profile; an incomplete or unordered profile can leave the shading off.
See GEX Live Chart for the zone controls.
Check why a level is missing
Relative Size Filtering controls secondary levels. The starting slider value is 15%; the Balanced preset sets 19%. C1, P1, and HVL are not removed by this filter.
Open Level Status beside the settings gear and read the status label:
VisibleOff-screenFilteredDisabled
A level may be outside the visible price range, below the threshold, or switched off. See GEX Live Table for the status examples.
Open Level Analysis
Select a level label on the Chart or Table to inspect its definition, distance from spot, and zone context. Check whether other labels share that strike: for example, Ab1, POI, and D−.
Read the measures behind the labels before treating several labels at one price as separate evidence.
Keep the two update clocks separate
About once a minute
GEX, DEX, levels, and expected-move analytics refresh from 6:40 AM to 4:00 PM ET on weekdays.
Check Last Refresh in the header when comparing snapshots.
Real-time streaming
Spot prices stream separately in real time while the live feed is available.
Read the chart's price badge. A changing price does not mean the options analytics refreshed at the same instant.
Match the symbol before comparing levels
SPX and SPY have separate options chains. For mapped futures, open the intended futures symbol so the levels use its price scale:
See Symbols and futures for the mappings.
Need the snapshot in TradingView? PRO indicators receive about five scheduled weekday updates. Use Copy levels to TradingView to paste a newer compatible snapshot into GEX Profile PRO. The indicator uses the newer matching data. See Update schedule and Manual Override.
Build a repeatable review routine
Read the anchor and the range width
EOD uses the previous close, PRE the 6:30 AM ET premarket price, and OPEN the 9:30 AM ET cash-open price. Their boundaries can differ because both the anchor and range width can change between snapshots.
Compare both inputs in Expected Move Box. The boundaries provide context, not price targets.
Filter, compare, then inspect
Set the volatility, earnings, liquidity, and price criteria for your comparison. Built-in filters such as Pos Gamma Extension, IV Skew Edge, and Earnings Rising IV combine criteria; check their active labels.
Compare the matching rows, then open a symbol in GEX Live to inspect its strike profile. A matching row is a data result, not a trade recommendation. See Options Screener.
Review a saved moment in context
Confirm the historical date, time, symbol, and expiration. Read how walls and HVL changed between saved snapshots. On the Chart, Future shows the later recorded price path in gray.
Turn Future off to inspect the selected moment first. Choose Live and confirm when you want to leave Replay. See GEX History/Replay.
