WebApp
WebApp FAQ.
Answers to common questions about update frequency, expiration modes, chart and table controls, expected-move ranges, Replay, and mapped symbols.
How often does the WebApp update, and what do the price badges mean?
Options analytics (GEX, DEX, key levels, expected move, and screener metrics) refresh about once a minute from 6:40 AM to 4:00 PM ET on weekdays. Spot prices stream separately in real time while the live feed is available.
- Live derived price — the real-time spot stream is active.
- ~1 min delayed spot price — the real-time stream is unavailable, so the WebApp falls back to the minute snapshot price.
- Data Refresh Paused / Updates weekdays 6:30 AM – 4:00 PM ET — outside regular weekday update hours (or after an early close on a half day), the WebApp retains the latest saved snapshot until the next session.
If a gamma profile or wall shifts quickly during the session—especially on 0DTE or around a scheduled economic release—check the Last Refresh and Symbol Data Saved timestamps in the top header before assuming a display issue. See Symbols and futures.
Why do my TradingView levels differ from the WebApp, and how do I sync them?
The six TradingView PRO indicators receive about five scheduled updates per U.S. trading day: approximately 6:40–6:50 AM, 9:40–9:50 AM, 12:40–12:50 PM, 2:40–2:50 PM, and 3:40–3:50 PM ET (delivery to the chart can take a few minutes). The WebApp refreshes its options analytics about once a minute during the weekday window.
To bring current WebApp levels onto your TradingView chart between scheduled updates, click Copy Levels in GEX Live Table or GEX Live Chart and paste the string into the Manual Override field in GEX Profile PRO → Settings → Inputs. The indicator only applies the pasted snapshot when it is newer than the last scheduled TradingView update. See Copy levels to TradingView, Manual override, and the update schedule.
Which expiration and mode (Standalone vs. Cumulative) should I choose?
Match the expiration and calculation mode to the horizon you are analyzing:
- Same-day / 0DTE: select
0in Standalone mode (with Key Only enabled) so open interest from later expirations does not dilute today's chain. - Weekly / multi-day (2–7 DTE): inspect
W1orW2in both Standalone (that single expiration) and Cumulative (Σ) (all expirations through that date). - Monthly / swing: use Cumulative (Σ) through
M1orM2, or compare the full term structure in GEX Matrix. - Earnings: look for the expiration chip pulsing purple. Before-market reports belong to that day's expiration; after-market reports belong to the next trading day's expiration.
See Expirations and Expiry selection.
Why is a secondary level or zone shading not visible on the chart?
Primary levels (C1, P1, and HVL) always stay visible, while secondary levels (C2–C6, P2–P6, Ab1–Ab3, OI, volume, and D+/D−) depend on your settings in GEX Level & Chart Settings (Ctrl+M):
- Check the Level Status pill next to the settings gear on the chart. It tells you whether each secondary level is Visible, Off-screen (outside the current vertical price range), or Filtered (below your Relative Size Filtering threshold, which starts at 15% in a fresh browser and 19% in the Balanced preset).
- Check Chart Zones and profile order. Colored gamma zones draw when Chart Zones is enabled and the profile is ordered (
P1≤pT≤HVL≤cT≤C1). IfC1orP1is hidden or a thin expiration has an unordered profile, zone shading is omitted.
See GEX Live Chart and Chart and layout.
How do Expected Move Box and Adaptive Expected Move work?
- Is an expected-move band a price target? No. It is the options-implied range around a reference price for that horizon—analytical context, not a buy or sell signal.
- Why is the Expected Move Box blank in Table view? The session strip on the Net GEX column only displays when today's expiration (
0DTE) is selected and at least one snapshot (EOD,PRE, orOPEN) is enabled; it is not shown on later expirations. Before the 6:30 AM ET premarket snapshot is generated—or when today's range is not yet available—enabling History (1MorALL) allows the table to fall back to the most recent saved session's range (labeledLAST). - Why do EOD, PRE, and OPEN have different boundaries? Each snapshot is anchored to a different reference price (prior close, 6:30 AM ET premarket, and 9:30 AM ET cash open). An offset between them reflects the overnight or premarket move, not a calculation error.
- Why is BEM tighter than 1σ, and can I change the delta in Smart EM Range? BEM is a weighted straddle/strangle formula, whereas σ STD¹ is the full one-standard-deviation envelope from
IVx. Smart EM Range always blendsBEM,1σ, and the fixed16-deltadistance on each side; to choose another delta (16 to 40), switch Adaptive Expected Move to Advanced.
See Expected Move Box, Adaptive Expected Move, and Expected move.
How does GEX Replay work, and why are some dates grey or sparser?
- Why is the live price frozen with an amber border? You are in historical Replay mode. Click the green Live button in the playback bar and confirm to return to real-time streaming.
- Why is a calendar date grey? No historical snapshot was saved for that expiration role on that date. Monthly roles (
M1–M3) andALLextend further back than0DTEand weekly roles. - Why are there fewer snapshots on older dates? Recent sessions (last 2 weeks) are saved about every 5 minutes from 6:40 AM to 3:55 PM ET. Older history is downsampled progressively (every 15–30 minutes, hourly, every 2 hours, and about 4 points per day beyond 6 months).
See GEX History/Replay.
How do SPX, SPY, and mapped futures (/ES1, /NQ1) relate?
Although their price charts move similarly, SPX and SPY have separate option chains and different open-interest distributions. Use SPX levels when trading SPX options, SPY levels when trading SPY options, and the mapped futures symbols when trading futures.
In the WebApp, front-month mapped futures use the 1 suffix: /ES1 is scaled from SPX, /NQ1 is scaled from QQQ (not NDX), /RTY1 is scaled from IWM, and /YM1 is scaled from DIA. Metals and crypto proxies (such as /GC1 and XAUUSD from GLD, /SI1 from SLV, BTCUSD from IBIT, and ETHUSD from ETHA) work the same way. See Symbols and futures and Futures mapping.
Which symbols are supported, and why can a weekly look empty?
PRO covers the supported U.S. options universe (250+ liquid stocks, ETFs, indices, and mapped futures/proxies); the exact list updates as options liquidity and data availability change. International underlyings without liquid U.S.-listed options are not included. If a supported equity has thin open interest on a single weekly expiration in Standalone mode, switch to Cumulative (Σ) or a monthly expiration (M1) for a fuller profile.
Does TanukiTrade publish Max Pain?
No. Max pain calculates the single strike where open long option premium would lose the most value at expiration, but it does not model how dealers hedge delta and gamma as price moves during the session. TanukiTrade focuses on GEX, DEX, HVL, and the call/put walls instead. See GEX and Dealer hedging.
Where are my settings and filters saved?
Settings in GEX Level & Chart Settings (Ctrl+M)—including level toggles, relative-size filtering, zone coloring, candle themes, and expected-move switches—along with Compact view and the Ultra-wide toggle are saved locally in your current browser and shared between Table and Chart where applicable, while table column presets (Ctrl+L) are saved for GEX Live Table. In Options Screener, active filter combinations are stored directly in the page URL so you can bookmark or share them. Two separate browser windows can keep different symbols open at the same time.
